Intent of the Day: Let Nothing Linger

fullsizerender-1

The holidays are such a special time. They come once a year, everything feels like it could end up a little dreamier. Movies tell us this is the time when people declare their true feelings, fall in love, reunite with lost loved ones and, if that’s your hope, we sincerely hope that happens for you. In fact, we hope to have every skill we need to give our third act monologue. Or maybe just the words we need to handle whatever feelings and thoughts pop up over this season. Our #intent of the day is to let nothing linger.

Intent of the Day: Beauty We See

fullsizerender

This week it has been our intention to notice beauty in the places we tend to take for granted or overlook. In ourselves, in others, in our surroundings. The act of noticing causes us to slow down and to train our eyes to look for something specific. To notice beauty is to disrupt the cycle we can find ourselves in where we are noticing what didn’t go our way. We end up noticing the people we don’t like, the ways we were slighted, the things that didn’t go our way, the disappoints we have with others and ourselves. Adter spending the week noticing the beautiful, we want to take the next step and call out the beauty we see. Why? Because it’s nice for someone else to hear? Sure. But we are also changed when we speak out the kindness and goodness we recognize.

How? He are 3 ways we were changed:

Intent of the Day: Beauty in Ourselves

fullsizerender

What does beauty mean?
Does it mean you’re a model? Does it mean everyone wants to go on a date with you? Does it mean you make everyone envious? We find that more often than not, we have a complicated relationship with beauty. Sometimes the words we hear on the subject leave us feeling isolated and not enough. But that doesn’t make them true. As we find beauty in the world around us, we are finding that it first starts with how we see ourselves.

What is your measure of beauty?
Is it the skin you’re in?
Is it the posture of your heart?
Is it your actions or your words?
It matters.
If you can’t see beauty in the world, it may be because it is very hard for you to acknowledge what is beautiful about yourself.
So today our intent is to start there.
We intend to see the beauty in ourselves.
Because when we can accept beauty in ourselves, we can accept others in the same way.

Intent of the Day: Beauty in Others

fullsizerender

Oh the things we see when we actually look. Beauty in nature. Beauty in our circumstances. Beauty in others. Seeing beauty will mean we first have to decide what that means to us. What will we consider beautiful? We want to learn to see it everywhere, in all things, even in the unexpected places. Today, we intend to see the beauty in others.

A Letter from Mallika Chopra: After Election Day

photo-1477936821694-ec4233a9a1a0

Last night, around 9:30pm (LA time) when it was clear Trump would win, I sat in bed with my girls as they both cried. They are 14 and 12 and completely engaged in politics and the world. They were hurt, scared, confused. How could this happen? What will happen to women, immigrants, Muslims? Are we going to move? It took everything in me to assure them it will be ok. We have checks and balances in this country. I ended up just going to bed with them, and skipping the remaining results. This morning, we woke up to tears once again knowing this is our reality.

But we made a commitment, before getting ready for school, that we will not to engage in the hysteria. We are going to keep the tvs off. We are keeping our schedules today. We are not talking about moving. We are focusing on family, friends, school, work.

And as the reality of this new world settles (which truly affects the whole world), we will do our part to stand up. We will strive to be more compassionate and understanding, but also strong and bold about living every day with intent and purpose.

Intent of the Day: Picture the Future

fullsizerender

Tomorrow is election day in the US and many are nervous about what the future will hold. Will it be the end of the world at the strike of midnight? Will it be the answers to all our hopes and dreams? The bigger question is what do you hope the future will be like and what are you doing to build that future? Our intent is to picture the future we want to live in. It is with intention that we plan to build something we’re proud of.

Intent of the Day: The Bold Choice

fullsizerender

Sometimes we’re the only people who know we aren’t being bold. We can disguise it as a lot of things. The appearance of being wise or frugal. The appearance of taking this or that into consideration. Not everyone can tell when we held back, but we know. The thing is, to live lives of intent, to live lives that we dream of, it’s going to require a certain amount of boldness and we want to commit to going there. Our intent today is to make the bold choice. Our intent is to be okay with the butterflies in our bellies, with the possibility of criticism and questioning. We’re going to be bold.

Our Intent of the Day: Welcome November!

screen-shot-2016-10-31-at-11-01-01-pm

November signals that time when we all start to cozy up. We put on our sweaters. We pull out our favorite family recipes. We settle in for winter and the beginning of a new year. But before we dive right in, we want to celebrate the start of another month in 2016! We want to enter November with the same intention and purpose that launched us into January. And how? Intent of the Day: Laugh

laugh

“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person.”
– Audrey Hepburn

There is something wonderful about people who laugh. They shine a little bit. They’re a little lighter. They can roll with the punches a little easier. We’re trying to get some of that in our lives. As it turns out, laughter is not only good for your spirit, but also your body and mind. So today our intent is to laugh because we think we need it. You too? Intent of the Day: Focus

What were we just doing?

We recently read that an office worker is distracted every 3 minutes and will require 23 minutes to get back on task after being distracted. With a notification for everything, the very things that meant to help us get and stay connected can also keep us distracted. Distraction is also a great way to avoid dealing with the tough stuff. We don’t want to talk about a troubled relationship or a struggle at work so we find any way to get distracted. In the end, all of these things result in us spending more and more time away from the people and things we love. This is why today our intent is to focus.
