Intent of the Day: Feel the Disappointment

alexa-mazzarello-192172

We put plenty of focus on how to find and stay happy. We celebrate happiness and it’s understandable that we would want to stay in a place of joy and goodness, but that isn’t the only emotion that will come across our place over the course of a lifetime. Part of the gift of being alive is the gift of being able to feel both the highs and the lows- to know disappointment means that we at one time hoped so big. To feel loss means we first had. To struggle means we know what it means to feel content and ease, and while we do not wish to spend any more time than we have to at the bottom of despair, we want to honor those feelings just as much as we would the ones that feel positive. Those emotions are real and indicate important information about what matters to us.

Our intent is to let ourselves feel our disappointment.

Intent of the Day: Time to Pray

mohamed-nohassi-191165

Prayer has been defined as “a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship.” Whether or not you have faith God, a god or no god, the practice of asking for help and expressing gratitude is an important one for everyone. It is how we begin the conversation of what is real and true for us as individuals. It is in the act of prayer that we quiet our souls and get honest with ourselves which is why it is our intent to take time to pray.

Intent of the Day: Maintain Our Identity

beach

In the midst of changing seasons, strong personalities, new situations, finding yourself tossed in the waves of personality is a great likelihood. We’re navigating bosses, spouses, family members, strangers, ourselves. It’s a lot to juggle and if you’re not careful, you can find yourself changing shape based on the circumstance when ideally we would all show up as our most authentic selves.

When we can maintain our identities, the world gets to experience the gift of our individuality, our contribution of feelings and perspective and the confidence that comes when we are successfully able to communicate. Today our intent is to maintain our identity in a sea of personalities.

Featured Intent: Healed from the Past

screen-shot-2016-12-05-at-9-30-53-pm

Over and over we’ve found ourselves in the same place. Maybe that place is one of positivity and abundance. We’re surrounded by wise and kind people who lift us up and support us. Perhaps it’s the opposite. We continue to find ourselves in the same mess. We’re repeating patterns that have existed longer than we can remember and the hard part is imagining a life where they aren’t a part of us.

Are some of us just lucky? And does it mean there is no hope if we’re one of the unfortunate folks who pulled the short straw of struggle?

We believe that with focus, intent and genuine desire, a pattern is something that can be overcome if it is destructive. We believe that sometimes, before you can move forward, you have to deal with the past accurately and honestly. This can mean seeking or offering forgiveness. This can mean shining a light on dark corners we had long accepted as forgotten. This can mean voicing feelings and truth we didn’t even know existed.

But we’re ready for a different future so today our intent is to be healed from the past.

Intent of the Day: Beauty in Ourselves

fullsizerender

What does beauty mean?
Does it mean you’re a model? Does it mean everyone wants to go on a date with you? Does it mean you make everyone envious? We find that more often than not, we have a complicated relationship with beauty. Sometimes the words we hear on the subject leave us feeling isolated and not enough. But that doesn’t make them true. As we find beauty in the world around us, we are finding that it first starts with how we see ourselves.

What is your measure of beauty?
Is it the skin you’re in?
Is it the posture of your heart?
Is it your actions or your words?
It matters.
If you can’t see beauty in the world, it may be because it is very hard for you to acknowledge what is beautiful about yourself.
So today our intent is to start there.
We intend to see the beauty in ourselves.
Because when we can accept beauty in ourselves, we can accept others in the same way.
