VOD: Lily Allen Bluntly Calls Out Sexism and Misogyny in Today’s Music

Brit singer Lily Allen has always been known for having a bit of a smart mouth, but this week she’s making waves on the internet for her new single, “It’s Hard Out Here for a B*tch.” The title alone is enough to start some controversy, but Allen takes on the various female stereotypes in the new video and doesn’t pull any punches on how women are talked about in today’s biggest hits. Most pointedly she sings in the second verse, “Have you thought about your butt lately and who is going to tear it in two?” which is a direct reference to rapper T.I.’s line in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” “I’ll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two.”

Allen makes a few other references to Thicke’s single and video in particular, but her point overall is that it’s time to stop saying that women have made so much “progress” as if it’s time to stop pushing for equal rights when they are treated and painted as caricatures in mainstream media. 7 Old-Time Ads That Would Cause Riots Today

Before tobacco companies were legally mandated to disclose the connection between cigarettes and cancer - it was probably a winning strategy to be the most popular death stick with doctors!When there are campaigns in the US to ban literary classics and relegate women to second class citizenship it can be hard to tell how much progress we’ve made over the years.

But can you imagine a time when it was okay to send all of your friends cartons of cigarettes for Christmas? How about feed your baby coca-cola in their morning bottle? Women are still fighting for the right to make decisions about their own bodies, but what about a time when wives were only considered important for their ability to put dinner on the table?

Check out these real ads from the past that would cause certain outrage today. Some of them are ironic, some illegal and others infuriating. We still have a long way to go with some of the issues these ads raise, but sometimes it’s good to see how far we’ve come already.

At last, God listened to our prayers. Yesterday, as I finished sending you three contributions from a cyber café I got home and turned on the TV, every channel was broadcasting the same news. From June seventh to July seventh the private sector will receive projects to solve our countries main issues from any citizen, organization or enterprise. Please keep your fingers crossed regarding my contributions to improve education in my country with a supplementary program. Initiative Mexico is the name of this huge invitation. You can access to this site at www.iniciativamexico.org and use a translator to accompany me and many other true Mexican to do something for our country.
Since I was a small child, I’ve always thought BIG! To me, there have always been easy solutions. I love my country with great passion, but mainly I love my people, wonderful people. I love this fantastic land; A land full of bright colors, pleasant odors, exuberant vegetation, sacred places. A land filled with magic ,rituals, traditions and mystery. I’ve always been a realistic person, so I’m aware about all the negative aspects, but now with our contributions will indeed neutralize them with great efficiency. I am so optimistic because now the Government will listen and the private sector will back up great ideas! I feel great! Thank you all! I expect to be the magical Mexican Candyman. VIVA MÉXICO!!!

5 Steps to making your dreams real

Studies show that if your goals and dreams have many if not all these criterion, they are more likely to be accomplished and become real.

  1. Your goals need to be measurable. It’s not enough to say, “I will write more.” It’s much better if you can state, “I will write for three hours Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.” Specifics, you can track and see how you are progressing.
  2. Make your goals attainable. I’m not saying, dream small, because your dreams need to be challenging, but don’t make them so far out of your reach that you are left defeated and dismayed. If your ultimate goal is to buy a house in the coming year, but you have no real savings, pull back and adjust your time frame or get a second job. Another option is to land on a similar dream that is just as fulfilling…maybe a more spacious apartment or an apartment with a deck?
  3. Do you! Chase your dreams, not your mother’s, or your spouse’s.
  4. Chunk down. Break large goals down to bite-size pieces and steps, accompanied by a specific date. Large goals can seem awesome and impenetrable, leaving you paralyzed and anxiety ridden. Take the time to make large goals into step-by-step actions, with dates, so you can track how you are progressing.
  5. Along the same lines, as #1 and #4, goals need to be concrete. What do you mean, “I’m going to take better care of myself.” HOW are you going to do that? Will you exercise more? And how often? Will you quit smoking? Get the patch? Will you cut out desserts? Forever? Abstract goals are not allowed.

Here’s another tip for making your dreams real. Satisfying goals tend to be the ones that feed the soul. Don’t get me wrong, making more money and buying a boat can be pretty fulfilling, but don’t forget to focus quality time on giving to your community, attaining good health, and building satisfying relationships.

At this precise moment, there are many people around the globe immerse in deep thinking in order to develop great ideas about progress without sacrificing our environment.

Most of these creative people, in spite of finding desirable practical solutions, won’t do anything to be able to accomplish their important dreams.
The good news is that, just a few of them will be correctly driven by their strong and positive convictions facing many hardships.

It has become essential that, in order to obtain true progress, we must do our best to find practical applications of great ideas and thoughts. Historical facts are constantly telling us, in many different ways that ideas are agents possessing tremendous power.

Great ideas are the ones which thank to them has our current civilization has first arisen, and then given life to Nations, institutions and great world leaders.

OUR HUGE TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS IS VERY HIGH. So now mankind, thanks to this divine and creative capacity, is capable of developing, and imagining a much better place to live in.
True green progress will be guaranteed by people fully convinced and committed to conquer all the difficult obstacles and hardships.

These special and brave people only need some opportunities of institutions, or sponsors to get their support with their pilot plans which take into account different alternatives to develop at its best human resources at all levels.

Knowledge becomes part of ourselves when by special mental exercises, and first hand experiences we’re able to create desirable and very reliable solutions. By doing so, each lesson learned will be recorded in our conscious.
To be absolutely straight, conventional current educational programs are very far away to accomplish the above described.

Important facts and information, most of the times don’t go beyond the students’ comprehension. Why? Teachers and schools instruct their students in a very abstract way. They fail to supply the extra push needed to make the difference. This extra push make the students get really motivated. This motivation accomplishes a lot. There won’t be a lack of passion. These students will surely love knowledge.

Let’s keep something in mind. In order to obtain a trustable knowledge, both our emotions in hand, with our minds have to be 100% involved!

Normally, the lack of crystal clear objectives avoids our brains to absorb important facts. My conviction is that our main problem is that, our schools have, is that they teach just a little bit about today’s issues. They are almost totally focused in the past without making a relationship with our present, much less the future.
We feel our own minds grow and expand, when we, not only learn both, the old and the new, but we can apply it right here and now knowing beforehand, what it can become in a near future.

To me the greatest potential to make changes and adjustments don’t depend on our skills and gifts. It mainly depends on the attitude we feel about ourselves!

Considering all the explanations above described was the reason why, with God’s inspiration, I was able to create the APPLIKOM PROJECT.

What are the main project’s goals?
It seeks a much, and harmonious placement regarding people’s jobs and fields, specially young people in those areas, where they will find much better equipped, so they’ll be able to have many growing golden opportunities. Getting this, they obviously will succeed with no frustration at all!

A progressive society is always dynamic! It concerns everybody to do the best about it. The maturity of our human race must be raised.

This is an invitation to participate as a student of the APPLIKOM PROJECT for at least a year, and because a lot of feedback is needed to improve it your full commitment will be a must.
Worldwide, we will be the first to have these tremendous advantages. Read this article, then study it and last ponder on its ideas, please!

OUR SPIRITUAL ASCENTION

   Some thoughts regarding this wonderful experience.At this wonderful site I’ve met wonderful people.Not only intelligent people, but loving human beings really interested in our planet, education, animals, craetivity and most of all seekers of truthful spirituality.

  When we’ve been lucky enough to have access to reliable sources regarding self-development instructions our goal is already half way accomplished. Why do I consider this a fact? Because by initiating this personal growing project, we unconsciously start a chain reaction. It is by getting deeply committed to this action that is logical to see very palpable results, in obtaining many positive relationships with first, our true self, then with the eternal Nature’s laws and finally with our fellow men. And really feeling this harmonious relationship we will surely feel God manifesting through our thoughts, words and actions. Our lives will be 100% worth living without any doubt. 

  Seeking a self-improvement we will find ourselves manifesting important self-control, the necessary self-discipline, our will power self-determined to reach our objectives, our self-esteem greatly increased, and last but not least the advantage of possessing a good quantity of self-assertiveness. 

  As you have just appreciated our journey through life is quite a beautiful experience! We must imitate a sea captain journal to keep track not only of our advancements but, because of our trials and errors. This action means having both feet on solid ground due to that we human beings like to sometimes minimize our achievements, and other times we love to maximize our efforts. 

  After over fifty years of keeping track of my own experiences I discovered that the moon phases have a lot to do with both our successes and our failures. I strongly suggest finding out on which moon day you were born. By doing this you will know the astrological zodiac sign on which you were born. Studying a lot of people through the years these experiences have confirmed what I explained above. There will be a minimum of wasted efforts and much less frustration. Becoming a book worm at ten years old and now being sixty-six I’m fully aware that I still have a lot to learn. Deep down I’m sure that there won’t be a tiny bit of wasted effort. All these readings, have had the main purpose of to make very contagious the practical application of knowledge, both human and Divine. 

  As I always do. I wish very intensely that all the cosmic love from my brave and loving heart flow to your also brave, bold and loving hearts.

Peace and Talking to your Divine Source. How to Live the Way of Peace.

Why peace is so important for all, now?

Because, as the Indian mystic Sufi Inayat Khan said, "All things pertaining to spiritual progress in life depend upon peace". These wise words are particularly timely now, because we are experiencing a shift in universal consciousness as a prelude to a new era of higher vibrations for all. And promoting peace goes hand in hand with this shift. One feeds the other.

We are marching towards more cooperative models of interaction in our societies. This implies peace, since peace essentially means understanding, respect, and freedom for everyone to express their uniqueness, in a world of plenty and possibilities for all.

Peace is the ideal setting for humanity to evolve in a sustainable manner, in alignment with the laws of the universe and in respectful coexistence with the environment and mother Earth.
 
The human race tends to think always in terms of progress. But humanity cannot have real progress without peace. Peace entails sustainable development. Sustainable development is the one “that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (as defined by the Brundtland Report about Sustainability by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987).

So how can you live the way of peace?

As Dr. Deepak Chopra says, quoting the ancient Vedic texts: “You will know when you are living the way of peace when three things are present: Seva: Your actions harm no one and benefit everyone. Simran: You remember your true nature and your purpose for being here. Satsang: You belong in the community of peace and wisdom”.

We may have to figure out the best specific ways for each of us to carry out this peaceful way of living in our personal experiences. As an inspirational example, the famous quote by the American Indian leader Vine Deloria: “Only tribes will survive”, is being interpreted now as a reminder that more cooperative models of interaction in our societies may involve a new communitarian approach that also respects nature, the environment and spiritual wisdom.

As Gregory Bateson once said, "The major problems in the world are the result of the difference between how nature works and the way people think".

We owe peace to the world, to people, to nature and to future generations. But we also owe peace to ourselves. Your inner peace is of utmost importance for the global vibrations because, as numerologist Hans Decoz says, “in a universe of infinite dimensions, every point is the absolute center. You are such a point”.

This is why, as your inner peace grows, you will feel more in communion with the universe. And your natural positive attitudes and EXPERIENCES will flow. As humanity needs peace to develop in a sustainable manner, you too need peace for your personal development to take place. Do you understand why?

Because, as Ludwig van Beethoven said: “You have to listen to the voice speaking inside of you. Silence is the key…when that silence envelops you, then your soul can sing”.

In other words, you need peace, quietness and silence in order to hear your own soul. And you need to hear your own soul to know where you are going and how you are going to get there in unequivocal terms.  Your soul would not lie to you. It is your own source and essence that is aligned with the universe.

This is why you own peace to yourself. Because it will allow you to get directions from your own divine source. This will have a positive impact in your experiences, in your relationships and, since you will be vibrating at a higher level, your energy will have a positive influence on the highest good of all, too.

Doing the Best You Can

It isn’t always easy to meet the expectations we hold ourselves to. We may find ourselves in a situation such as just finishing a relaxing yoga class or meditation retreat, a serene session of deep breathing, or listening to some calming, soul-stirring music, yet we have difficulty retaining our sense of peace. A long line at the store, slow-moving traffic, or another stressful situation can unnerve you and leave you wondering why the tranquility and spiritual equilibrium you cultivate is so quick to dissipate in the face of certain stressors. You may feel guilty and angry at yourself or even feel like a hypocrite for not being able to maintain control after practicing being centered. However, being patient with yourself will help you more in your soul’s journey than frustration at your perceived lack of progress. Doing the best you can in your quest for spiritual growth is vastly more important than striving for perfection.

Just because you are devoted to following a spiritual path, attaining inner peace, or living a specific ideology doesn’t mean you should expect to achieve perfection. When you approach your personal evolution mindfully, you can experience intense emotions such as anger without feeling that you have somehow failed. Simply by being aware of what you are experiencing and recognizing that your feelings are temporary, you have begun taking the necessary steps to regaining your internal balance. Accepting that difficult situations will arise from time to time and treating your reaction to them as if they are passing events rather than a part of who you are can help you move past them. Practicing this form of acceptance and paying attention to your reactions in order to learn from them will make it easier for you to return to your center more quickly in the future.

Since your experiences won’t be similar to others’ and your behavior will be shaped by those experiences, you may never stop reacting strongly to the challenging situations you encounter. Even if you are able to do nothing more than acknowledge what you are feeling and that there is little you can do to affect your current circumstances, in time you’ll alter your reaction to such circumstances. You can learn gradually to let negative thoughts come into your mind, recognize them, and then let them go. You may never reach a place of perfect peace, but you’ll find serenity in having done your best.

Embraceable You: Comparing Yourself To Others

You are unique. There is no one else like you in the entire universe. In honor of your unique self, it is good to acknowledge and embrace the special qualities that make you the person that you are. One way to do this is to not compare yourself with other people.

It is human nature to want to see how we measure up in comparison to others – especially if we think that they are better than us or have more of something that we want. Yet the truth is that it is not a good use of time to compare ourselves with others because there is no one like us and this makes us incomparable. It is sometimes almost easier to look outside of ourselves and feel like we are deficient in comparison to other people rather than taking responsibility for our own progress in relation to the fulfillment of our life purpose. It actually takes more courage to be self-referential and look at ourselves to see whether we are measuring up to our standards or meeting our full potential. Each of us has very special gifts, and we are here for very specific reasons. We each have a life purpose to fulfill and with this come the lessons that we must learn and the circumstances that we must go through in order to evolve as spiritual beings. To compare our lives to other people’s lives when we have no idea of what they are here to learn or fulfill doesn’t benefit anyone – especially you.

Instead, if we can accept ourselves, appreciate the special talents and qualities that we alone possess, and realize that each of us is going through certain kinds of experiences for a reason, we are less likely focus so much on what other people have or are doing. Realizing and valuing our uniqueness enables us to bring out the best in ourselves so we can get on with living rather than preoccupying ourselves with meaningless comparisons. Try to not compare yourself to others, and you will see how much you have and how special you are.

Evaluating Our Healing Progress

Question:

I’m a little uncertain and i was wondering if you could help me out with something. I’ve endured a lot of psychological & emotional trauma as a kid and have also ended up creating a variety of different physical health issues as well…things from urinary issues, to chronic fatigue, to depression and constant anxiety and I believe a lot of this comes from the way I have thought over the years.

Over the last 5 years I have gotten myself into self-help, cognitive behavioral therapy and personal growth programs, I seem to be guided by an unseen force into things that may make me overcome my health issues. The only problem is that after awhile i start to doubt whatever it is that I’m doing and I don’t see the benefits in continuing. I want to feel healthy, I want to feel alive and passionate as well, so I guess my question is, do you have any advice when it comes to keeping myself certain that if i follow the path i’m on, I’ll achieve my goal of being healthy?

 
Answer:
 
When we begin a self-help program or therapy, we do so with the expectation of getting benefits, but it is important to not set the expectations unrealistically high or else we will be setting ourselves up for disappointment. On the other hand it is reasonable to expect some results as a means of evaluating which  programs work for us or don’t.
 
On the areas you mentioned: urinary issues, chronic fatigue, depression and anxiety, there will be some overlap in treatments and time frames involved, so there isn’t a simple formula that will apply to all of these. Suffice it to say that you will need to speak to your health professional about reasonable expectations, and time frames within which you can evaluate your progress and make adjustments. The more fully you can distance  the  assessment of your progress from your fluctuating moods, the more likely you will continue  the treatments  long enough to accomplish their aim.  
 
Look for obvious markers of progress, and keep a journal to keep track.
·         Are you sleeping better?
·         Has your appetite improved?
·         Are you having more positive social interactions?
·         Have others commented on any changes in you?
·         Are you having more good days than bad days?
·         Are you accomplishing more tasks, or doing them more easily?
 
There will be ups and downs in any healing or recovery process, but overall, if the treatment is effective, there should be obvious improvements in these basic areas of life.
 
Also, the better you understand the treatment, its mechanisms and principles, the better you will be able to match your expectations to what is supposed to be happening at each stage. That prevents you from simply desperately moving from one treatment  after another, hoping for a miracle, and then being emotionally devastated when on  difficult days  you feel it’s not working, and want to quit.
 
It’s fine to try something else if what you are doing isn’t effective, but that determination should be made independent of your moods. This is especially true in cases of depression where one is predisposed to disappointment.
