The Mood in the Music… How Your Spiritual Intent is Affected

It’s a nice day outside… the sun is bright, a few billowy clouds in the sky, a slightly warm but yet refreshing breeze caresses you, birds are singing, not a lot of extraneous noise… in short, a perfectly beautiful day is before you as you step into your patio to enjoy the morning’s moment and sip that first and best cup of coffee. Ahhh, it’s great to be alive and to be able to have this brief but important time to reflect spiritually and to cleanse your mind.

Then it starts. Not real close or real loud, but it’s enough to break the solitude you were basking in and to distract you from what God had just so perfectly served up. You don’t recognize the song or the artist… nor do you really care right then… but it’s raucous and harsh music and it just ruins everything! You pick yourself up out of your ever so comfortable cushioned patio chair and go in the house… firmly closing the French door behind you to shut out the sound… and go back to the kitchen for more coffee, a little disgruntled.

That ever happen to you?

I think it’s happened to many of us… it certainly has happened to me… and more than once I might add! One could say that’s the price we pay for living close by other folks, in the city or suburbs, where we have stacked ourselves either vertically or sideways next to or on top of each other. So close you can sometimes hear the neighbor sneeze… right? (I’m speaking from personal experience here…). Why does that seem to happen so often, that “the mood” was shattered usually by some noise… sometimes loud music… that is discordant to that moment, that perfect setting? You may have had a little Mozart spinning on the CD player helping you relax, to ponder the upcoming day… or not. Doesn’t matter. That moment’s light mood is gone forever, replaced by a somewhat darker mood. You’ll get over it for sure but you won’t forget it. And the reason you won’t forget it is because moods in life are somewhat like negative and positive numbers in mathematics… with some emotion thrown in for good measure. It’s a fascinating study in the physics of life.

Connecting oneself to the pluses and minuses of life starts out as an automatic function of daily routine. You awake, you arise… you go through your little ritual to get yourself ready to meet the day… and the one thing you present to the world every day is your mood. How that mood comes to be is a combination of often complex circumstances and conditions, some of which you have no control over. Others you DO control: Continue reading

Using Music Sound and Vibration to Enhance the Process of Creating Intention

Manifesting an intention is a process of becoming the vibrational match of what you are seeking.  More than attracting the “physical” something into your life, it is about tapping into the emotion of what you are intending as if it was already here.  For example, if you are looking to attract a loving relationship into your life, being the emotion of love and forming a loving relationship with yourself is where it all begins.  Although positive thoughts are important, it is your emotions that become the catalyst for igniting your intention.   This means forming a deeper relationship with your heart.  Music communicates to the heart in a language far beyond words.  In the following paragraphs I will outline three musical tools that will assist you in orchestrating your intentions. Pitter, Patter

It is raining outside.

Pitter, patter.

The rain makes a constant hum, as it falls on the roof.

Pitter, patter.

My niece rests on my lap, reading her book.

I stroke her hair.

Pitter, patter.

Flip, goes a page of her book.

We both inhale, then exhale.  In sync.

Pitter, patter.

It is otherwise quiet.

I close my eyes and listen to the hum.

I listen to our breaths.

I listen to the flip of a page.

And then my breath deepens.

The constriction I felt earlier in the day is now gone.

“I have a roof over my head,” I think to myself.

“I have so much.”

“There are so many who need.”

“There are so many without a roof.”

"What can I do to give?"

As we go through our day, experiencing a myriad of stressors, we can often get caught up and lost in tension, fear and frustration.  When the world around us falls prey to natural disasters and economic downfall, feelings of insecurity and scarcity become more prominent.  The result is that we act less generously and lovingly.

And when we live in the land of stress, we forget that we also live in a land of plenty; that there really is plenty to go around for all.

So take a moment or two to slow down.  Then,

Listen to the raindrops.

Close your eyes and follow the rhythm of your breath.

Discover the stillness in the moment you are in.

Appreciate all that you are and all that you have.

Then ask yourself, “What can I give?”

The Power of Words and Names

The words we utter can have a very real impact on our wellbeing and it may be no coincidence that the word for the location where all love and emotion arises in our physical being is the word Heart, pronounced H -ah -t..  If you read on I’ll tell you why because in this article I would like to look at the subject of sound and the possibility that our language holds more meaning than has hitherto been commonly supposed by the majority of people. I would also like to postulate that Barack Obama’s success and seemingly magnetic/charismatic hold over many people, may be attributed (at least in part) to his name.

The Power of Sound
Although numerology is often ridiculed as superstitious nonsense by some in the West, it has long been a belief of the Chinese that the number 8 is propitious. Rather than this being due to it’s numerological value however,  the reason for the number being revered is mainly because eight in Chinese is pronounced "ba" and sounds like the word for prosperity which is pronounced "fa".  The importance of this number and it’s sound can be seen in the Chinese Government’s decision to start the Olympic Games on the 8/8/08 at 8pm.

The great Sanskrit ‘sacred sounds’  are known as mantric ‘seed syllables’. These are OM, HUM, HRIH, and AH and the sound AH appears in both words for the Chinese number 8, B-ah and F-ah.

According to the fabulous book The World is Sound, Nada Brahma by Joachim-Ernst Berendt, all language arises from one source – sound – and mantras are sacred sounds of a single word, syllable or entire phrase. The syllable man means intelligence, or thinking and feeling, whilst Tram is the helping and protective power. A man-tram spreads its wings over intelligence; thinking and feeling; over man. The Tibetan Buddhist Lama Anagarika Govinda calls mantras’ ‘mental tools; tools of the mind’. He speaks of the mantra as primordial sound and as being ‘pre-linguistic’

Out of the four sacred seed syllables, the greatest mantra is said to be OM – indeed it has been said of this mantra that its power alone can bring enlightenment. According to Joachim-Ernst, OM is ‘the ascent towards universality’. HUM ‘is the descent of universality into the depth of the human heart’. HRIH kindles the ‘upward leaping flame of inspiration and devotion’ but AH, in contrast is ‘the expression of wonder and direct awareness’.

The author Wayne Dyer also seems to be fascinated by the power of sound. He spoke at length about the power of the syllable AH in his 2003 book about Japa meditation called Getting in the Gap. In this book he pointed out that "the sound AH within the name God ( G AH D) is the same sound around the world….. Allah ( AH-LL- AH), Jehovah ( Je ho v- AH) Krishna( Kri-sh-n-AH). RA (r- AH) Yahweh ( Y-AH way)"

Wayne comments that, when repeated as a mantra, this sound keeps us in a prolonged state of conscious contact with our Source. He also points out that it is the only sound that we can make with virtually no effort. It is the exhalation of breath, the sound one naturally makes in ecstasy.

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe" Proverb

In the beginning was Brahman, with whom was the Word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.

Br AH m AH

The first part of the Lords Prayer -Our Father who art in heaven is read as…AH f AH th AH who AH-rt in Heaven hallowed be thy name. That’s a 4 times repetition of the sacred sound.

And so it was that I noticed that in the name Barack Obama, especially when pronounced by an American, we hear:

B- AH r AH k Ob AH mAH which is another 4 times repetition. Four being the number associated with manifestation.

Could it possibly be that, unknown to Mr Obama, his name carries a very powerful overtone which, the more it is repeated and beamed around the world, is subtly affecting us all at the vibrational level.

Still unsure of the power of this syllable? Think of the word Amen – AHHHH men, or consider that when we see a new born baby, or someone in distress, how we automatically say AH as a symbol of our love, empathy and caring.

Notice too:

Nirvana= Nerv AH n AH

In Buddhism this translates as: The ineffable ultimate in which one has attained disinterested wisdom and compassion.
and in Hinduism; Emancipation from ignorance and the extinction of all attachment.
it also refers to: An ideal condition of rest, harmony, stability, or joy.

or look at the Sufi Mantra- LA ILAHA ILLA’ LLAH or L-AH I- L-AH h AH I L AH l – AH- (There is no God but God)

This whole subject of sound as creator of our world, permeating into many dimensions, is far too complex to cover in one short article but I highly recommend that you read Nada Brahma. This book is riveting and opens up a whole new area of possibilities for those interested in co-creating their world.

Sound Healing with Mediation

Using frequencies in sound can help in meditation, either though this alters your brain state, it causes you to relax and tap into the brain state that causes dreams or emotions.

When using the sound healing technique you can delve into you own psychological drama, this may cause some issues in your life that you may not be conscious in your life.

The deeper you go the more you learn about yourself and others, you start to begin to realize that nothing matters and every detail is important, or the way round, depending on your wiring.

Sound healing is said also to be used to rewire ones brain, Tom Kenyon has a system to use to join the hemispheres of you brain, left and right together in harmony, it seemed to work for me but I am a spiritualist rather than a scientist.

Sound healing is useful in many ways through MP3 CDS, Tibetan bowls and bells, drums, chanting or any modern instrument, the intent is to heal or relax.
