The Magical Root: A Natural Treatment for IBS (with recipes!)

25. colon-pain

Irritable Bowel Syndrome troubles 7 to 10 out of every 100 people in the world.

An intestinal disorder, IBS can cause cramping, bloating, diarrhea and constipation. One of the most noticeable symptoms is pain in the belly.

Symptoms will vary from person to person and many times are so mild that people never go to their doctor.

Symptoms can flare up in response to certain triggers, such as food, stress (anxiety and depression), or menstruation.

Whether you have been diagnosed with IBS or have occasional intestinal discomfort, there are many natural treatments available.

Here’s 3 natural ways to relieve the symptoms of IBS:

There are no specific foods linked to IBS symptoms, but if you notice certain foods trigger your symptoms, try to avoid them.

Increasing the fiber in your diet can help keep constipation at bay. Opt for natural foods and fruits with fiber.

Probiotics are the good bacteria in your stomach. They help regulate the “bad” bacteria and can go a long way to relieving the symptoms of IBS. These can be found in foods such as yogurt, miso, tempeh, or can be taken as a supplemental pill.

Regular exercise can help to relieve the symptoms of IBS. Exercise helps to manage stress and can help to relax the body.

Consider the severity of your symptoms when choosing your exercise. Walking is a low-impact exercise and is great for the body.

Whatever exercise you choose, make it regular.

Ginger has been used for centuries to treat a variety of disorders and is especially beneficial as an antidiarrheal and laxative agent. It’s been described as an “ideal herb for possible use in the treatment of IBS.”

Ginger has proven effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders, and modern research has discovered that ginger naturally increases the contractions in the small intestine, resulting in enhanced functioning of the intestinal system.

Incorporating ginger into your diet is easy as it can be mixed into drinks, such as tea or lemonade, and can be used in flavoring dishes.
