Tonight I got in a intense conversation with my good friend.
He said something regarding Burack Obama that sparked me to get a little deep with him. I invited him to spend time with me and my family for Thanksgiving. I was having a nice time, but I was also spending half my time watching CNN and right before Deepak came on to give his two cents about the tragedy in India, I was telling my friend how we are all responsible for this.
Then someone whose opinion I respect, Deepak, was saying some of the same things I was saying about this…It made me think about how wonderful it is that Mallika put this site up and that her father is here with us.
I find it so imperative at this time to talk to our friends, to keep being straight with them about unity…seriously though, I mean I love to laugh and have a good time and we should continue to have a fun, but this is a unique time in history…the powerful article Deepak wrote in the Washington Post about where Obama should worship and Deepak talked about him praying with those that you wouldn’t ordinarily think he would or even should.
We need to be the leaders and upgrade our converations.
Wherever you see a conversation that lends to ingnorance, speak up! India today, your neighborhood cafe tomorrow…that’s for real!
Whenever you hear someone spaking out of ignorance, saying something that isn’t supporting peace and unity, fill them in on what’s at stake right now…
Whenever you get a chance to let people know about the importance of the time we’re living in, that we can’t just let everything be as it has been, that we have a voice and we should speak up when we hear or see divisive rhetoric. DIVISIVE * Creating dissension or discord.
Look to the future, let go of your judgements and be a stand for bringing people together…Put yesterday behind you, let people know there is no peace without letting go of yesterday and having a vision for tomorrow.
Today think of every human life as important as your own and whether it be in India or our back yard, pray for them as if they were your sisters and brothers. Because we are all one living on the same earth and we have to have forgiveness, compassion and the courage to pray for the ones we normally choose to hate.
We can make this world be something beautiful but our voice has to have a clear intent behind it and we have to have the courage to use it.
BLove,Taimak
