Today’s Juice Feast

Nearly every morning for the last year, I’ve juiced fresh, organic fruits and vegetables – 16 oz. of fresh juice daily. I am always amazed at how great I feel afterwards. A creature of habit, I usually include at least one red beet, a couple of carrots and some ginger root as my base and then add different combinations based on what I have on hand.

I wanted to share this morning’s combination because not only was is great-tasting, but also gave me an envigorating burst of energy! (Note: the following recipe yields 32 oz. of juice when using a masticating juicer, like the Champion Juicer… why not prepare a glass for your significant other!)

– 1 organic red beet
– 2 large organic carrots
– 1 small piece of organic ginger
– 1 stalk organic celery
– 1 small bunch organic cilantro
– 1 small bunch organic watercress
– 1 large organic grapefruit
– 1 small organic apple

Personally, I find that including one lemon or grapefruit makes all the difference in creating the perfect juice blend. These fruits are also both great for digestion and for cleansing the liver – a great idea first thing in the morning.

The benefits of juicing are numerous and have been touted by nutritionists, health experts and integrative doctors for years. Those who juice on a regular basis find that they have stronger immune systems, clearer skin, increased energy and better mental focus.

I’d love to hear your favorite fruit and/or vegetable combination and what you love most about how juicing makes you feel!

I've been juicing for the past 2 weeks straight. Before that I was doing green smoothies, but I got tired of them and started to strain them.

The beet isn't overwhelming for you? I put just a sliver in and it still takes up all of the flavor!

Not really… but I admit that I like the earthy sweetness of the red beet and its deep magenta color in my juices. The deep color alone makes me feel like I'm doing something great for my body! They are full of anthocyanidins (powerful antioxidants that protect against cancer and other chronic diseases), as well as life-enhancing phytochemicals. Perhaps raw or juiced beets are an acquired taste, but have you experimented with different types of beets, like golden beets, candy-striped beets, etc.? You may find one that is a little better suited to your palette. Good luck! :)

I love juicing. And I love beets. Here's something that is just fantastic: Apple juice with just a little bit of beet.

I agree. When beet is present it asserts itself. For some people doing beets daily is too much for their system.

Carrot and apple juice. That's one of my favorites. Just simple and delicious. Almost feels like a cocktail.

I haven't had my fresh juice yet today. I had been wavering between an orange/apple juice (another favorite) and a veggie juice. You've swayed me in favor of veggie:

Carrot, Fennel, Apple, Celery. Maybe a bit of beet? We'll see.

I've had my juicer almost a year now and I use it almost every day. Sometimes I have 4 or 5 juices a day. Just amazing. Really.

Oh. I wanted to say. A fresh veggie juice really does make an excellent cocktail. Make one while you're waiting for dinner (or while you're preparing dinner). One thing it does is just SUFFUSE your entire body with nutrients and a deep sense of nourishment.

Your body feels cared for and delighted. So when you sit down to a meal, the body already knows it has what it needs and you can eat without overdoing. And the taste buds have been awakened so everything tastes more luscious.

I think you can tell. I'm with you on this. Juicing is amazing. And if you haven't made your own fresh juices or had someone make you one that you really loved, you haven't really experienced juice. Bottled juices just aren't the same. I find they have their benefits, but please don't think you've had a fresh juice if you've had juice that's packaged.
