The Truth About Back Pain Revealed: What Happens When Your Back Goes “Out”?

When the higher incorporates the lower into its service, the nature of the lower is transformed into the higher.

-Meister Eckhart

When someone’s back “goes out” where does it go?

My experience working hands on with thousands of people from over 50 countries has shown me that “out” is more than just a mechanical misalignment — even when a physical injury has occurred.

One of Webster’s definitions for the word out is “In or into an insensible or unconscious state.”

So, it is not surprising that when someone is experiencing pain in a region of their back they would say “My back is out.”

Pain occurs when there is tissue damage or an inability to move energy in the body.

Based on the work of researchers like Dr. Candace Pert, we know that energy in motion in the body equates to emotion. So when someone’s back goes “out” the seized, bound, locked or stuck area is related to an inability to be present with the feelings they are experiencing. That region that is “out” is a physical anchor to that avoidance.

When an area of the spine locks up, the energy in that region of the body is not experienced fully by the part of the brain that can decipher it, the frontal lobes of the cerebral cortex. The result?  That part of the back is now “out” of conscious awareness.

More on this to come…
