Unplug and Empty Your Mental Junk Drawer

What’s In Your Mental Junk Drawer?

Are you familiar with the computer term, GIGO?

It means “garbage in, garbage out.” I learned this term from a computer-geek friend of mine who was commenting on my Twitter and Facebook rants on the 2012 doom’s day coverage.

My friend said, “Why are you participa

ting in this junk? It’s pure GIGO. You need to clean out your mental junk drawer. And while you’re at it, turn off your computer.  Ever heard of fresh air?  You need some!” (Now – there’s a good friend!)

We make such a valiant effort to eat healthfully and be positive, yet we attach ourselves to our computers and tune into Twitter, Facebook, et al. for ridiculous amoun

ts of time.  Don’t we? Or is it just me?

It seems as if I am rarely away from my email, ever present on my i-PHONE.  Connected to technology all the time.  What’s happened to me? (Rhetorical, no need for you to tell me :)

My mental junk drawer is jam packed, over-loaded,and it’s about to explode! Warning: It’s ain’t gonna be pretty!!!

It’s zero hour now … so, before my mind does blow to kingdom come and maybe yours too???  I am taking this opportunity to invite you to join with me as we empty our mental junk drawers and declare it a non-GIGO day.

Let’s steer clear of negativity, let go of our addiction to new technology, and just for today (or even a good part of today???) tune into nature!  You know, take a walk!!! Look out the window and let your eyes gaze as far as possible toward the horizon!

Here are a few guidedlines that may help you to ‘let go,’ ‘unplug,’ and ‘be happy’!

1. Plan to unplug.  Set aside time and mark it on your calendar.  Honor it!
2. Hold a real book in your hand.  Feel the pages.  Turn them.  Maybe even read them.
3. Just sit!
4. Go for a walk!  OUTSIDE!  One foot in front of the other!
5. Breathe.  Take in deep cleansing breaths.  Ahhhhhhh ….
6.  Vow.  No more GIGO!

How overloaded is your mental junk drawer?  How and when will you unplug?

Spread the word … NOT the icing!
