Reasons for Becoming Vegetarian

Many people become vegetarians because of religious or ethical convictions that prohibit the killing of animals. Some simply don’t think it’s cool to kill and believe we are meant to be stewards and caretakers of the earth and its inhabitants. These people do not wish to support practices that inflict harm or suffering on any creature who has the capacity to feel pain.

The small family farm where husbandry practices engendered a certain respect for animals used for food is becoming a thing of the past. Today, most of the world’s meat, dairy, and egg production occurs on massive factory farms owned by agribusiness conglomerates. Farming has become big business, and profits dictate how the animals are treated – which means they’re often kept and transported in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

I was led to read Fast Food Nation a few years back; the information made me consider vegetarianism after 41 years of a typical western diet. I went two weeks until the crave overcame the knowledge of the book. Within seconds of the first bite, a hamburger not unlike hundreds of others I'd consumed prior presented me with a feeling of eating a brick. The pain was pretty bad as this "brick" traveled from throat to upper then mid chest and my mind wondered what to do, but my body in its infinite wisdom had already decided. It regurgitated the "brick" up and out!

Going from ignorance to awareness made it into my body's cells way deeper than I thought was possible in that short a time. From that moment until now I've had not even an iota of a craving for meat. I recently went Vegan and feel great! I'm consistently told I look 10 years my junior, always have energy, never need coffee, can sleep effortlessly and haven't taken a medication (Rx or OTC) in over a decade. And to appease the western, doubting, linear mind in me and others, extensive blood test showed all categories are highly within accepted parameters.

Life is good. Both for me and for the animals my body's decision has saved.

After raising awareness for Prop 2, I realized what a hypocrit I was, and stopped eating 'anything with a face' from that moment forward. I could no longer deny the animal's suffering and that by eating the product of a factory farm, I was advocating the inhumanity toward the animals. I had blood on my hands, and was sending the message that their treatment, their abuse, torture, and sickness was okay by me because I continued to eat the meat knowing what was happening. Well, my favorite quote is from Maya Angelou~"You did what you knew how to do, but when you knew better, you did better". I KNOW BETTER, THEREFORE I AM DOING BETTER. I believe we need to send a message to the factory murderers by stopping eating meat. Hit them where it counts, and hurt their profit margins. Only then will they listen. These are monsters whom you cannot reason with. Anyone who can commit these heinous acts against innocent creatures is NOT anyone who has a conscience and are beyond reason. They are no different than sociopaths and serial killers. Only difference is once serial killers are caught, they are prosecuted, and get the death penalty. Too bad we can't subject these torturous murderers to this same fate. Animals cannot speak for themselves, and I will step up and speak for them anytime, anywhere, and do every opportunity I get.

Let's expand the consciousness of the planet to eradicate this abuse!!!

    Namaste,

    Krissy

Even though I feel very strongly about vegan/vegetarianism, I did not stop eating meat because of these reasons. I had the same "brick" reaction. I just couldn't eat anymore. It wasn't on purpose, but itt has been such a blessing.
