Vegetarian Recipes and Going Veggie

To become vegetarian is an excellent spiritual goal to have. While it is not absolutely required of a person in order for them to say they are a Hindu or a Dharmi (practicer of Sanatana Dharma), it is still very much recommended for many reasons that ultimately benefit anyone on a spiritual path.

There are so many fantastic vegetarian recipes and foods that becoming vegetarian doesn’t have to be the sacrifice that many think it would be. In fact, once one learns how to create or obtain enough delicious and nutritious vegetarian food, they often prefer the taste greatly over non-vegetarian food. The discovery of certain foods and spices, including ayurvedic foods, may even make one feel extra alive and happy. It is also great to have the extra peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are doing something that is healthy for the mind, the body and the world itself.

To become a fully practicing Hindu or Dharmi, one must become vegetarian. Sri Acharyaji, Dr. Frank Morales, requires students to become vegetarian before they take their first formal initiation (Diksha Initiation) into the practice of Dharma; and of course all spiritual leaders of Sanatana Dharma are expected to be vegetarian.

Whether you have become completely vegetarian or not, there is probably some vegetarian food that you enjoy. All are welcome to share their favorite vegetarian recipes in their comments here. Besides the good taste that favorite vegetarian foods have, favorite recipes sometimes have additional qualities such as being convenient, surprising, symbolic of a person’s personality, super healthy, inexpensive, and well-liked by everyone. With your help, we can create the ultimate collection of super recipes here.

There is an amazing array of vegetarian protein that is available. There is bean burger, garden burger, tofu, seitan, tempura, beans, cheese and nuts. There are also many vegetarian meat substitutes available for just about every kind of meat.

Note: Vegetarian recipes do not include chicken, broth of chicken, broth of beef, fish, shellfish, lard, bacon or gelatin. We also try to avoid eggs except many of us will eat breads and other things that contain small amounts of egg. Milk, butter, ghee, and cheese are okay with most Hindus and Dharmis. (We also prefer cheese that does not contain rennet if possible.)

I’m looking forward to seeing your recipes.

About Tulasi Devi

I have been a student of Sanatana Dharma (Eternal Natural Way) for many years and I try to practice the important teaching of being God-centered in how I live my life. I want to revive the understanding and practice of Dharma first in the United States and then in the rest of the world. I work towards this goal every day in many different ways. I also support my authentic and well-qualified spiritual teacher in Omaha who is the spiritual leader of the Hindu Temple of Nebraska.

I would like to see a greater quantity of qualified and authentic spiritual leaders of Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma around the world. We need to support and preserve the understanding of Truth in our society by supporting all our true spiritual leaders. We have to become leaders ourselves by doing this.

Jaya Sri Bhagavan!
