Why the Term ‘Ethical Eating’ is a Misnomer

Behind the Kitchen Door is a short film that explores the hidden ethical implications of eating out at restaurants.  According to the filmmakers,

“what’s at stake when we choose a restaurant is not only our own health or “foodie” experience, but the health and well-being of the second-largest private sector workforce—the lives of 10 million people, many immigrants, many people of color, who bring passion, tenacity, and important insight into the American dining experience.”

Truly “ethical eating” is never as straight-forward as simply ordering “free-range” meat or a vegetarian meal. To learn more about what it really means to eat ethically and the challenges faced by food service employees, go here.
